ICAP CRIF with the support of Artemis Credit Bureau Ltd, is organizing the Credit Risk Management Conference entitled “ESG Impact on Credit Risk: Navigating Through Challenges” on Monday 4 November 2024, at the Hilton Nicosia Hotel in Nicosia.

 

The conference is under the auspices of the Association of Cyprus Banks.

 

This year’s theme, will feature thematic sessions that underscore the importance of integrating ESG criteria into credit risk assessment models and how these criteria influence business performance and competitiveness.

 

It will also highlight the role of AI and how its application opens up new perspectives for risk assessment and risk management for firms in an environment of constant uncertainty.

Demetris Demetriou

Chief Risk Officer, Bank of Cyprus

Dimitris T. Demetriou is the Executive Director of the Risk Management Division of Bank of Cyprus since September 2019. He started his career in 2000 at the Cyprus Investment and Securities Corporation (CISCO) as an Investment Analyst. From 2003 to 2006 he worked at the Bank of Cyprus as a Client Relations Officer and then took up the position of Deputy General Manager of the Bank of Cyprus in Russia. Subsequently, he returned to Cyprus and was assigned to the Private Banking Division and then as Head of Institutional Client Investment Management. From September 2013 he took on various roles in the Risk Management Division until September 2019, when he took up the position of Director of the Risk Management Division. Dimitris holds a Bachelor's degree (BA) in Economics and Mathematics from Yale University, USA and a Master's degree (MSc) in Finance and Economics from the London School of Economics, UK. He also holds a CFA certificate.

Dr. Michalis Kammas

Director General Association of Cyprus Banks

Dr Michael Kammas is the Director General of the Cyprus Bankers Association. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Banking Federation (EBF) in Brussels. Since November 2013 he holds the position of Vice-Chairman of the Banking Committee for European Social Affairs (BCESA) of the EBA. He has also served as Chairman of the Audit, Remuneration and Budget Committee of the European Banking Federation from May 2017 to May 2021. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of various government agencies, state institutions and other private entities. Dr. Kammas has taught courses at universities in the US and Cyprus and is a Lecturer at the Cyprus College of Business Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Utah, USA and MA and BA degrees in Economics from Roosevelt University, Chicago Illinois, USA.

Dimitris Kolkas

Risk Executive, Eurobank Cyprus

Dimitris Kolkas joined Eurobank Cyprus Ltd in 2009 and holds the position of Head of Risk Management. In the past he has held various positions in the Eurobank Group and other banking institutions in Greece in credit risk management and corporate finance. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki and an MSc in Finance from the University of Leicester.

Nikitas is President and CEO of ICAP CRIF, the largest Business Information, Risk Management and Advisory Services Group in South East Europe with a presence in 4 countries. As CEO of ICAP since 2007 and until the end of 2021 (acquisition of ICAP SA by CRIF), he led ICAP to more than quadruple its size, reaching 1,200 employees, €94 million Revenue and €10.8 million EBITDA. He has served as General Manager, Head of Consulting (KPMG), Senior Consultant (Hay Group), Head of Human Resources (Investment Bank) and Assistant Procurement Manager (Papastratos). He is a graduate of the Athens University of Economics and Business, holds a Master's Degree (MBA) in Management and Human Resources Management from LOYOLA University. He holds a Diploma in Human Resource Training and Development from Thames Valley University and the Institute of Personnel and Development. Andreas Costouris studied Journalism and worked in various media in Cyprus for eleven years before joining the Association of Banks in 2016 as Communications Officer. As a journalist, he was mainly involved in financial and business reporting, having covered important events in the recent history of the country related to the country's economy. At the Association of Banks, he is responsible for maintaining regular and effective communication with independent authorities and organisations, government agencies and departments, political figures and parties and of course with the Cypriot media.

Olivier is a seasoned research and innovation specialist at InnovEcoS, CRIF's Global Open Innovation Hub. He combines deep expertise in strategic research and innovation advisory with a hands-on role as an innovation project lead, transforming emerging technology ideas into resl-world solutions. He joined CRIF in 2017 and he is based in Vienna, Austria. In his current role, Olivier leads the strategic experimenting and result-driven of cutting-edge technologies, including generative AI and Web3. He orchestrates large-scale pilots to evaluate emerging tech's ROI and productivity impact. With over 15 years of experience driving digital innovation projects for Fortune 500 companies, primarily in the financial services sector, Olivier has a proven track record of translating emerging tech trends into strategic advantages. Olivier holds an MSc degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Technology of Compiègne (France). He speaks French, German, English, and Japanese.

Dimitrios Bourpoulas is the head of ESG at Artemis Credit Bureau. Demetrios joined the organisation in 2023 to lead the Interbank ESG Criteria Based Assessment of Cypriot businesses and with an overall mission to work with key stakeholders in the Cypriot market to develop and execute strategies aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability, promoting social responsibility and strengthening corporate governance practices. Prior to joining Artemis Credit Bureau, Demetrios worked in international companies, having more than 15 years of experience in industries such as banking, fintech, insurance, financial data analytics in Europe, Middle East and the US. Dimitrios concurrently serves as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors of an international Fintech company. He holds a B.Sc. in Finance from the University of Florida, an M.Sc. in Statistics from Columbia University and also holds a professional certification from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Artificial Intelligence (``Artificial Intelligence: Implication for Business Strategies``) and a professional certification from Harvard Business School in Sustainable Investing (``Sustainable Investing``).

George is Head of Analytics and Methodologies, a member of the Credit Rating Agency's management team, and joined ICAP CRIF in 2012, with extensive experience in Data Analytics projects, specializing in Credit Risk and ESG. He leads a team of quantitative risk professionals and key responsibilities include designing and developing risk assessment methodologies that help clients make informed decisions using data.

Konstantinos Papadimitriou studied Mathematics at the School of Sciences of the University of Patras and holds an MSc in Applied Statistics from the School of Finance and Statistics of the University of Piraeus. He started his professional career in Athens at Eurobank, HSBC and Citibank and joined the Risk Management Division of Alpha Bank Group in 2014. He has a total of 15 years of experience in the Risk Management sector. He was Head of the Credit Risk Division of Alpha Bank Cyprus since September 2017 and was appointed as Chief Risk Officer of Alpha Bank Cyprus on 1.7.2021.

Sustainability Manager, Papaellinas Group

Experienced Mechanical Engineer from Alexandroupolis, Greece. Graduate of the Faculty of Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace, Department of Production and Management Engineering. He has been in Cyprus since 2010, where he started a collaboration with the University of Cyprus as a Teaching Assistant in the course of Heat Transfer and at the same time completed the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus entitled ``Sustainable Development and Energy Planning``. She counts two publications in the journal ``Scientific Chronicles`` and was a Speaker at the 3rd International Conference on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency on the implementation of CHP systems in the health sector. Recognized Mechanical Engineer of the ETEK since 2010, with four years of experience in the marine sector (Dememarine, Demetriades Hydraulic Services) and ten years of experience in the construction sector. He has worked and been employed by major companies in the field (Pilakoutas Group, Luce Ataliotis, Jacovides Trading, YNB Consulting) and for the last years he has been working as a Consultant for Architectural Specifications and Sustainable Materials. For the last 3 months she has been the Sustainability Manager of PAPAELLINAS Group and a member of the Cyprus Hydrogen Association.

Dr. Christodoulos Patsalides

Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus

Christodoulos Patsalidis holds a PhD from the London School of Economics. He worked at the Central Bank of Cyprus and subsequently at the Bank of Cyprus, where he reached the position of First Deputy Managing Director. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Cyprus Banks and Artemis Credit Bureau. In October 2020 he retired from Bank of Cyprus and provided consulting services. In March 2023, he was appointed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus as his Special Adviser on Economic Affairs. Since 11 April 2024, he has been Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank.

For the past few years she has been working at Elysee Irrigation as Head of Human Resource Management and Development. George Savvas works as Global Head of ESG at Amdocs and is a member of the Board of Directors at CSR Cyprus. He focuses on sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) issues, contributing to the development and execution of innovative strategies that integrate environmental, social and governance principles for businesses. He has led the implementation of projects involving ESG strategy, preparation of non-financial ESG/CSR reports, diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI), CSR programmes, decarbonisation and design of health, safety, quality and environment (HSQE) management systems. His experience includes projects in a variety of sectors such as technology, waste management, facilities management, aviation and hospitality, as well as consulting on sustainability projects for the semi-government, financial and private sectors. He holds an MBA in Business Administration from the University of Cyprus, an MSc in Environmental Monitoring and Assessment from Southampton University and a BSc in Marine Sciences from the University of the Aegean. In addition, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the ``Cyprus Safety and Health Association`` for the period 2017-2021.

Panagiotis Stavrou is a member of Cyta's Sustainable Development Department, where he is responsible for the strategy and planning of projects and actions related to green energy transition, social responsibility and corporate governance. He has more than 20 years of experience in key positions in the Technology and Information Technology sector, mainly in the design of Networks and Mobile Communication Services. Yiannis Tomasides

Yannis Tomasidis is the General Manager of Artemis Credit Bureau. He joined the organization in 2010, assuming the position of Operations Officer. Over time he was promoted to Senior Operations Officer and later to Manager. He is a graduate of the University of Cyprus with a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Business Administration. He started his professional career in 2002 at the international market research consultancy Synovate International as Research Executive for the Central and Eastern European and Middle Eastern markets. He was soon promoted and seconded to the firm's Saudi Arabia office managing major clients in the financial industry. In 2006, he was appointed Vice President-Head of Marketing Research and Marketing Manager, Asset Management Division, at the Saudi Arabian investment bank NCB Capital. He was reappointed at the end of 2009 and took up the position of Associate Research Director, MENA region at the market research consultancy Middle East Marketing Research Bureau (MEMRB).

Associate Professor of Finance, Manchester Business School

Dr George Christodoulakis is a member of the ICAP Board of Directors, an academic at Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, a financial advisor and entrepreneur. He has served as the State Secretary for Asset Restructuring and Privatizations of Greece, Advisor to the Governor of the Bank of Greece, member of the Hellenic Corporate Governance Council, as well as an academic at Cass Business School of City, University of London. His expertise concentrates on credit and market risk, financial forecasting and regulation, he has published widely in research journals and books and has edited the book Managing Risks in the European Periphery Debt Crisis, Palgrave Macmillan 2015 and co-edited The Analytics of Risk Model Validation, Elsevier 2008 and the Journal of Risk Model Validation, Risk Journals 2006.

Christos joined Moody’s Financial Institutions Group (FIG) in April 2007. Previously, he worked as a portfolio manager investment advisor with a Cypriot investment bank.
He holds a BSc in Management (1st Class Honours) from the University of Manchester (UMIST) and an MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking (Distinction) from The ICMA Centre at the University of Reading. Christos is also a CFA Charter holder since 2006.
He is now the lead banking analyst for Cyprus, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritius and for a portfolio of financial institutions in Saudi Arabia

George Sotiropoulos is the Chief Executive Officer of Cycle Credit, the leader in Receivables Management and Debt Collection, with presence in Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia; Cycle Credit is a member of ICAP group of companies and today accounts more than 20 years of experience, with over 200 employees and 5 million euros in Revenues. Before joining Cycle Credit, George was the Head of Strategy, Policies and Programs in PQH, the Single Special Liquidator assigned by Bank of Greece to manage all credit and financial institutions (17 in total) under special liquidation in the country. George has been the Risk Mitigation Head and Head of Credit Cards in Citibank International plc for 10 years and the Consumer Liabilities Head in Bank of Cyprus. With a round and complete financial and credit expertise, George combines a solid commercial profile as well, given his career initiation as Marketing Manager in L’Oréal. Since 1995, he is a visiting lecturer of Strategy and Business in the Hellenic American University.
He holds a BSc in Economics, Athens University and an MBA degree, Cardiff Business School, University of Wales, UK.

Haris Linardakis is the IBM cloud leader, Greece and Cyprus since 2015. Within his role, he is helping enterprises of all sizes in Greece and Cyprus to assess cloud readiness, develop cloud adoption strategies and power their digital transformation. Throughout his career in IBM, he held business development positions in global technology services and enterprise business unit. As a professional, he is committed to deliver business value through technological advancement and innovative thinking. His main interests include cloud platforms and services, business analytics, internet of things, cognitive applications and agile application development.
Haris’ academic background includes electrical and computer engineering degree and a PhD degree in telecommunications, both from the National Technical University of Athens. He has published and participated in research programmes in the area of medium access control protocols in Optical Networks.

Myrto Kyriakidou is Executive Director of the Credit Risk Services at ICAP SA, and responsible for the function of ICAP as a Credit Rating Agency.
Prior to ICAP, she was Director of the Portfolio Analytics Department of Qualco, leading a team of experts who evaluated and designed credit & collections strategies, based on data mining findings and risk modelling. She has held a Risk Analytics consultancy position at National Bank of Greece (NPL Division), contributing to the improvement of Credit and Collections processes. As Head of Statistical Decisions Hellas, she analyzed and evaluated credit portfolios for leading Retail Banks. Her first position was actuary at Interamerican Property & Casualty Insurance Company S.A.

Born in 1971 in Athens. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Statistics and Insurance Science Department from the University of Piraeus and honored with MBA from HENLEY MANAGEMENT COLLEGE in UK with direction in the Finance Strategy. He started his career in the Finance Department of SCA HYGIENE PRODUCTS S.A. as Chief Accountant in 1998 and from 2000 is servicing in the Credit Insurance Industry. Initially he worked in Gerling Kreditversicherung AG and further in ATRADIUS CREDIT INSURANCE N.V. as Commercial Manager. He participated in many multinational projects in the Group for the Greek Branch. For a short period in 2005 he worked in the LOGICOM Group in Athens as CFO. Then he continued his career in EULER HERMES HELLAS S.A. as Broker Manager. He had also the role of the project manager and trainer for the New EH Commercial Tool about Greece. Since 2014 and up today he is working for COFACE Group responsible for the Business Development Group’s Activities in Greece and Cyprus, as Commercial Manager.

Claudio Sangiorgi joined CRIF in 2016 with the responsibility for Business Development in Europe; during these years he brought CRIF’s value proposition from Nordic Countries to Mediterranean Region and he has been directly involved in several Digital Innovation Projects including Digital on Boarding and Origination, Collection, Leasing and Dealer Financing. During his career in different Companies, from start-up to very large corporation, has always held customer facing roles that allowed him to understand client’s needs and propose right technologies as enablers to support process innovation and business transformation. His areas of practice are international commercial litigation, arbitration, commercial and corporate law, regulatory, governance and compliance.

Mr. Michaelides has served as President of the Limassol Bar Association from January 2012 until September 2017. Since 2012 he is a member of the Board of the Cyprus Bar Association, which is the supervisory authority of lawyers for the purposes of the AML legislation.
